Former Washington Twp. Lieutenant, Bus Driver Dies at 70

James Crawford was an avid fisherman and hunter.

During the course of two different occupations, James Crawford had the chance to meet just about everyone in Washington Township.

The former town employee died recently at a care center in Blairstown at the age of 70, according to his obituary.

Born in Morristown in 1944, James Crawford lived in Long Valley for many years, and was employed as a Washington Township Police Officer before retiring at the rank of lieutenant.

After retirement, Crawford became a school bus driver for the Washington Township Board of Education.

In his personal time, Crawford was an avid hunter, fisherman, and trapper, and enjoyed construction and restoring antique cars.

He is survived by his wife, Judith, three sons, two stepsons, one stepdaughter, and 11 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 6 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cochran Funeral Home on High Street in Hackettstown.

Memorial donations may be made to the Frontotemporal Dementia Research at mayoclinic.org.
