Girls' Track Team Breezes Through County Meet
Middle schoolers take podium spot in 18-team event.
The Long Valley Track and Field youth program’s success is no secret, and the West Morris Central High School’s track team is always competitive.
But what about the teams in between?
The Long Valley Middle School’s girls’ track team proved its staying power last week when it took part in the Greater Morris County Junior School Coaches Association Track Meet and made its way to the podium, as a team, coming in third place overall out of 18 squads, according to Coach Sue Schiess.

Cassidy Orban grabbed two first place finishes; first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.5 seconds, and in the 200 meter with a time of 28.7 seconds. Orban took second place in the long jump and another second place finish as a member of the 4x200 relay team. Orban accounted for 36 points of the team’s points.
Orban was joined by Sydney Veno, Brittany Carratura, and Lauren Hamilton in that 4x200 relay, marking their spot at the podium with a time of 2:01, Schiess said.

Emily Egan put the shot 26.4 feet out, grabbing second place of her own in the event, and then took home fourth place in the discus.
With a time of 29.7 seconds, Hamilton came in fourth in the 200 meter dash. Leanne Engemann found herself in fifth place in the 400 meter, grabbing an impressive time of 1:05.
Other team members include Julia Castenada, Julia Herms, Meghan Sharkey, Emily McGee, Emma Jenkins, Sarah Guida, Samantha Ramos, and Emma Alai.
