Lifelong Long Valley Resident, Twp. Cop, Firefighter Dies

George Jones Jr. is part of Washington Township's history.

George Jones, Jr. was a major part of Washington Township’s history in the 20th century.

The lifelong Long Valley resident died on April 1 at Virginia’s House Respite Home in Belvidere, according to his obituary.

Jones was one of the first police officers in Washington Township and a member of the Long Valley Fire Department.

Jones was also a pilot and flight instructor. He enjoyed golf and bowling as well.

The former Picatinny Arsenal employee was also one of the founders of the Washington Township Food Pantry, now known as the Long Valley Interfaith Food Pantry.

He is survived by his wife, Ann, a daughter, a son, and one grandson.

A celebration of Jones’s life will be held at 1 p.m on Saturday, April 12 at Selah Center, 443 Schooley’s Mountain Road, Hackettstown.

Memorial donations may be made to Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research.

All funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cochran Funeral Home in Hackettstown.
