Lifetime Learning Lecture Series Returns to the Library
Washington Twp. Public Library will host lecture series on music, film, philosophy, and art history.
LONG VALLEY -- The Friends of the Washington Township Public Library have announced that the popular adult enrichment program, Lifetime Learning, will resume beginning September 6th.
Since 2012, this series has presented college-level instructors offering multi-part courses on a variety of subjects. There are no residency requirements, and tuition is $25 per course for Friends members and $30 for non-members ($12 / $15 for the mini-course).
The first series will be "Hitchcock & Herrmann: Collaborative Film Masters." It will be led by Dr. Robert Butts, Artistic Director/Conductor, The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey, and Professor, Montclair State University & College of Saint Elizabeth. The series will run four Fridays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., from September 6th through the 27th.

The next series, "Philosophy as a Way of Life," will be presented by Brandyn Heppard, Department Chair - Humanities, Social Science, Social Work & Education Division of Liberal & Fine Arts at Raritan Valley Community College. The series begin October 4th and run four consecutive Fridays from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m.
The third series is "A Year in Film - 1939," led by Joseph Geddes, English Dept., WMCHS, teacher of Film Analysis and Theory of Knowledge in the I.B./Honors Program. The course will discuss four landmark films: Stagecoach, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, The Wizard of Oz, and Gone with the Wind. Lectures will be held Thursday evenings, from 7 - 8 p.m., on October 10, 17, 24, and November 7. Screenings of the films will be held at 6:30 p.m. the Monday prior to each lecture.

And for the first time ever, Lifetime Learning will also feature a mini-course: "Modern Masters at the Met." Led by Michael Norris, Ph.D., former Museum Educator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, this series will focus on the early works of Matisse and Picasso at the Met. Classes will be held Fridays, November 1 and 8, from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
