Lifetime Learning Lecture Series Returns to the Library

Washington Twp. Library will host three virtual lectures series on rock & roll, film noir, and the 2020 election.

LONG VALLEY - The Friends of the Washington Township Public Library have announced that the popular adult enrichment program, Lifetime Learning, will resume beginning Friday, September 11th. For the first time ever, the series will be conducted entirely online, over Zoom.

Since 2012, this series has presented college-level instructors offering multi-part courses on a variety of subjects. There are no residency requirements, and tuition is $25 per course for Friends members and $30 for non-members. Those who previously paid for courses scheduled to run in the spring are welcome to transfer their registration to the new offerings.

The first series will be "The Roots of Rock & Roll in the 1950s and 1960s." It will be led by Dr. Robert Butts, Artistic Director/Conductor, The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey, and Professor, Montclair State University & College of Saint Elizabeth. The series will run four Fridays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., from September 11th through October 2nd.

The next series, "Film Noir" will be presented by Mr. Joseph Geddes, former teacher of Film Analysis and Theory of Knowledge in the I.B./Honors Program at WMCHS. Classes will be held Thursday evenings at 7 p.m., from October 1st through the 22nd. The films to be discussed (The Maltese Falcon, Double Indemnity, The Big Sleep, and Chinatown) are all owned by the library on DVD and can be checked out to watch at home.

The third series is "The Perilous Journey to 2020 Amidst a Pandemic," presented by Dr. Krista Jenkins , Professor of Political Science at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Director of PublicMind, FDU’s Survey Research Institute. Classes will be held Fridays mornings from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m., from October 9th through the 30th.
