Long Valley Jr Women's Club Helping Out Homeless Vets
Operation Chillout will benefit from a Long Valley Junior Women's Club fundraiser held March 5 to support homeless vets.
LONG VALLEY, NJ — New Jersey's oldest outreach organization for homeless vets recently got some help from the Long Valley Junior Women's Club.
The Long Valley Junior Women’s Club supported Operation Chillout at its 4th Annual Trivia Night Fundraiser on March 5 at Jersey Girl Brewing in Hackettstown. The evening featured 13 teams competing through eight rounds of fun, exciting, and at times very challenging trivia questions for prizes and, most importantly, for bragging rights, a club organizer said.
The event raised funds for Operation Chillout and its outreach programs that assist area homeless veterans. "LVJWC is thrilled to have raised over $3100 that evening, and when combined with two other recent in-club fundraisers, the total donation to Operation Chillout is approximately $4200," said Kate Nelson, LVJWC Co-President and VP of Public Relations.

Nelson said Operation Chillout is New Jersey's oldest all-volunteer mobile outreach for homeless veterans, men, and women, on a mission since December 2000. Attendees at the event were able to donate $25 to sponsor a backpack for homeless veterans filled with essential warm clothing including a sweatshirt, gloves, knit cap, warm socks, and thermals, Nelson explained.
The trivia questions included many entertaining rounds such as a State Slogan License Plate round, a Movie Quotes round and a music One Hit Wonders round. Nelson reported the music round had everyone up on their feet dancing while challenging their memories to recall the song title and artist name.

The winning team, the "Smart Alecs," included Halle and Moodie Coretti, Walter Ronge, Lori and Anthony Rosania, Mark Kitchin, Ruth Karmazon, and Dave McNulty who totaled an impressive 79 out of 94 available points. The losing team, "Let's Get Trivia," will have a full year to study up for the next Trivia Night event, that Nelson said LVJWC hopes to host again next March.
