Long Valley Track Stars Sprint Past Jefferson

Young runners bounce back to grab third win of season.

Long Valley Track & Field surged back this week with a resounding win on April 28 against Jefferson, 268-140. In just their fourth meet of the season, the team captured 31 wins and swept 11 different events taking first, second and third place finishes. With another week of countless personal records, these runners are definitely setting the pace for the rest of the season.

800m

The 9-10 boys started out strong in the first race, taking the win with Patrick Kelly in 3:24, followed by Devin Barnes in third with 3:40. The 11-12 boys pulled out second place with Max Murata in 2:52.37 while the 13-15 boys swept the event. Evan Carpenter won with a time of 2:40.96. Neil MacIntyre came in second with 2:48.36 and Liam Collester completed the sweep with a time of 3:08.48.

The 13-15 girls also swept the event with Corrine Rybarski crossing the finish line in 2:50.74, followed closely by Ava Lusskin with 2:51.27 for second. Briana Harmon came in third with a time of 3:07.55. Sarah Bhargava (2:51.03) placed second for the 11-12 girls and Catherine Masterson nabbed third with a sprint to the finish line for a time of 3:07.33.

Always a strong event for the team, this week was no different. Long Valley won 6 of the 8 relay events and placed in the top three for each one. The 13-15 girls swept the event with Ava Lusskin’s team winning first in 1:02.44. They were followed closely by Sarah Madden’s team in second with 1:03.86. Danielle Madden’s team pulled in a strong third and completed the sweep in 1:12.13. The 9-10 girls- Kelsey Collester, Sarah Datesman, Molly Sabo, Sarah Hanifin - pulled out second place with 1:13.64, followed by a third place finish by Sophia Dolan, Kathleen Cleary, Maggie Layfield, Rosalie Olsen in 1:15.82. Caroline Hurley’s 11-12 Girls relay team came in third with a time of 1:04.36.

The 13-15 boys pulled out their fourth consecutive first place finish with Tyler Johnson, Shaun Lionetti, Aidan Carrara and Drew Munley crossing the line in 54.43. They were followed by Taylor Parkinson-Gee’s team in third place with 59.59. Max Murata’s team also won first place in 1:02.56 while Lars Olsen’s team captured third with a time of 1:06. The 9-10 boys ran Jeffrey Cianfrocca, Nick DeChiaro, Luke Doerr-Frederickson and Patrick Kelly who pulled out a win in 1:12.98. They were followed by Marc Radissich, Dean Hurley, Antoni Kaplinski and Devin Barnes in second with a time of 1:14.93.

100m

The 13-15 Girls swept the event as Sarah Madden won with a time of 15.35. Hope Gough (15.45) and Mackenzie Hurley finished second and third. Caroline

Hurley nabbed second place for the 11-12 girls in 15.3, while Rosalie Olsen (17.62) finshed in third for the 9-10 girls.

Drew Munley won the event for the 13-15 boys in 13.23, with Tyler Johnson coming in third in 13.52. James Zeolla came in second for the 11-12 boys. The 9-10 boys had a strong finish with Luke Doerr-Fredrickson winning in 16.31 and Dean Hurley (16.92) in third place.

Mile

Julia Casteneda (6:19), Ava Lusskin (6:52) and Ashton Young (7:15) swept the 13-15 girls mile, nabbing all three top spots.  Catherine Masterson (7:14) and Rosie Lauzzari (7:15) took second and third for the 11-12 girls, while Molly Sabo (7:15) and Olivia Montuore (8:18) placed second and third for the 9-10 girls.

Evan Carpenter (6:00) won the mile for the 13-15 boys while Vincent Vuskalns took third in 7:06. Jeffrey Cianfrocca (7:44) also won the mile for the 9-10 boys and Patrick Kelly was a close second with 7:45. Tyler Bishop placed second for the 11-12 boys with a time of 6:46.

400m

Long Valley came in strong in this event, capturing 5 out of 6 wins and sweeping two heats. The 9-10 boys and girls both swept their races, bringing wins for Luke Doerr Fredrickson (1:24) and Sarah Hanafin (1:29.68). Christopher Bandille (1:36) and Sarah Datesman (1:30.96) came in second for their groups while Devin Barnes (1:32) and Sophie Hier (1:39.56) came in third.

Savannah Porrae (1:18) and Caroline Isemann (1:19) came in first and second for the 11-12 girls while Max Murata took second with 1:17 for the 11-12 boys.

Mitch Butynes (1:11) and Brianna Harmon (1:13) took first for the 13-15 boys and girls. Chris Pollack (1:12) took second for the 13-15 boys.

200m

Wrapping up the track events, the team swept the 9-10 boys and 13-15 girls 200m with Drew Hurley (37.62) and Hope Gough (33.12) claiming wins. Nick DeChiaro (9-10 boys; 41.29) and  Sarah Madden (13-15 girls; 34.38) took second while Turner Copenhaver (9-10 boys; 42.35) and Mackenzie Hurley nabbed third.

Also claiming wins in the 200m were Drew Munley (13-15 boys; 27.94) and James Zeolla (11-12 boys; 32.94). Tyler Johnson (13-15 boys; 29.54) took second. Third place went to Rosalie Olsen (9-10 gilrs; 39.82) and Caroline Hurley (11-12 girls; 33.82).

Shot Put

Off the track and into the field, the team performed equally as well, claiming five separate wins: Sarah Datesman (9-10 girls; 12’6 ½”), Danielle Madden (13-15 girls; 20’ 4”), Luke Doerr-Fredrickson (9-10 boys; 20’ 3”), Ian Dalgleish (11-12 boys; 25’ 6 ½”) and Taylor Parkinson-Gee (13-15 boys; 35’ 7”).

Second place went to Rosalie Olsen (9-10 girls; 12’ 5 ½”), Julia Casteneda (13-15 girls; 16’ 7”), Alec Rybarski (11-12 boys; 25’ 6 ½”) and Tyler Johnson (13-15 boys; 29’ 7”). Nabbing third were Doris Migliaccio (9-10 girls; 14’ 6 ½”), Nick DeChairo (9-10 boys; 13’ 6”) and Aidan Tata-Lobo (11-12 boys; 22’ 9 ½”).

Long Jump

Four more wins went to Long Valley when the team hit the sand pit. Patrick Kelly (9-10 boys; 7’ 9”), Sarah Hanifin (9-10 girls; 9’ 2”), James Zeolla (11-12 boys; 13’) and Aidan Carrera (13-15 boys; 14’ 4”) all took first.

Second place went to Jeffrey Cianfrocca (9-10 boys; 7’ 7”), Savannah Porrao (11-12 girls; 10’ 9”) and Drew Munley (13-15 boys; 13’ 11”). Third place honors went to Kent Hall (11-12 boys; 11’ 9”) and Briana Harmon (13-15 girls; 10’ 2 ½”).
