LONG VALLEY, NJ — Student athlete Nick Matthews was awarded the NYU Student-Athlete Academic Achievement Award last week, honoring his commitment to his team and his grades while attending New York University.
Matthews, who wrestled for West Morris Central during his high school career, had to maintain at least a 3.5 GPA and compete on a collegiate team for at least two years to earn the award.
He will be graduating from NYU's College of Arts and Science with a degree in English.

During Matthews' four years at NYU, he had a career record of 68-52 in the 141 and 149 pound weight classes.
He was also awarded All-University Athletic Association honors, was a five-time Intercollegiate Athletic Advisory Committee honoree, a five time UAA Winter Sport All-Academic and made the Centennial Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll twice.
