LV Wrestling Kicks off Season with 5-2 Dual Record

The Long Valley Wolfpack youth program opened its  2013-2014 competition season Thursday night at the Middle School, and ended Sunday early afternoon at West Morris.  During the that time, our Tri-County (K-8th grade) team lost a hard-fought match to Roxbury, one of the better Tri-County League teams, and then came back one night later to beat Hackettstown handily, starting the season 1-1.  Tri-County travels to Hanover Park Wednesday to challenge what may be the best team they’ll see all year.

Our Grade School League (5th-8th grade) team won two dual matches against Franklin and Kittatiny going away, and dropped their first dual of the year to a fired-up Watching Hills team, starting the season 2-1 and knowing they’ll get another crack at Watchung Hills in the year-end playoffs.  Grade School is on the road at perennial powerhouse High Point for a tri-match next Sunday where they’ll wrestle one of the best teams they’ll see this season.

The Northwest Team (K-6th) began its title defense Sunday with 2 wins over Branchville and Stillwater-Freedon, extending its dual meet win streak to 47 and starting the season 2-0.  Northwest will take its streak to Flemington on Thursday night, where they’ll need to bring their best effort to beat a very good Flemington team.

Thursday night, our Future Stars team traveled to Roxbury for its first match of the year, and many of our wrestlers experienced their first live competition of their careers.  The FS team performance was mixed, giving the coaching staff plenty to work on this week.  Next up for Future Stars is a home match with Lenape on Friday.

Last but not least, our Clinic team opened their season with over 100 other wrestlers at Hanover Township.  Most of our wrestlers competed in 2 or 3 matches, and many added to their weekend mat time at our Northwest JV competition Sunday at West Morris.  The key to improvement is as much mat time as possible, and our Clinic and Future Stars wrestlers got off to a good start in that department this weekend.  Our Clinic/KOM Novice team heads to Parsippany Saturday morning for its next taste of live competition.
