Natural Disasters: Be Aware & Prepared

Girl Scout Gold Award project features Information Sessions and Preparedness Safety Kits

LONG VALLEY -- Want to be prepared for a natural disaster? "Natural Disasters: Be Aware & Prepared" is a Girl Scout Gold Award project offering information sessions and preparedness safety kits. Information sessions will cover the following topics: what to do on a general emergency basis (evacuate vs shelter in place, what to have at your house, etc.); what to do if one has pets; information that is more disaster specific (what to do during hurricanes, blizzards/snowstorms, etc.); and information specific to senior citizens. Guest speakers will include Det./Lt. Chris Bratus (Washington Township Police Department), Jeffrey Paul (Director of the Office of Emergency Management in Morris County), and Joe Rotola (US EPA Chief of Removal Action Branch, Superfund & Emergency Response Division). Information sessions will be held on the following dates: August 21st at 1 p.m. at the Washington Township Senior Center and August 22nd and 29th at 7 p.m. at Washington Township Public Library. Preparedness safety kit workshops will be held on August 20 and 23 at Long Valley Presbyterian Church. Information sessions are free. Safety kit workshops have a $20 materials fee.
