No 'Major Discipline' For Police In Long Valley In 2021

No police officer from Washington Township faced "major" discipline in 2021, according to a report from the AG's office.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — The Washington Township Police Department reported no "major discipline" for 2021. According to the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General's "Major Discipline" report, no officers in the agency received "major" punishment last year.

The issues that were reported span between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2021, and were required per a directive by former Attorney General Gurbir Grewal.

The names and agencies of officers who were fired, demoted, or suspended for five or more days in 2021 were released in the report. Discipline that falls under the major category would include suspensions of more than five days, terminations and reductions in rank.

This is the second major-discipline report to be released, the first of which covered the second half of 2020.

Grewal directed all law enforcement agencies in New Jersey to publicly release certain disciplinary information last summer. The directive came after the New Jersey Supreme Court agreed to allow the public release of such information in the future.

The Washington Township Police Department didn't report any major discipline issues during that time period and instead came up under the category "Agencies Without Major Discipline," a list the majority of New Jersey police departments appeared on.
