No Twp. Newcomers or Incumbents to Vote For on Regional School Board

Two seats representing Washington Twp. will be up for grabs on November ballot.

Of the nine members on the West Morris Regional High School Board of Education, four represent Washington Township.

In 2015, two of the four – Joseph Galayda and John Meyer – are up for re-election on the November ballot.

But neither are running for re-election, according to the Morris County Clerk’s office, and no other Washington Township residents have filed petitions to run for a three-year term on the board.

The deadline to file a petition to be placed on the November 3 ballot was 4 p.m. Monday, July 27. Per state law, the top two write-in candidates on the ballot will win the seats, but if there are no write-in candidates, the board will have to appoint an individual.

One other seat on the board – representing Chester Borough – is up for re-election in November. Representative Don Storms filed to run for re-election and is unopposed.

No Local Challenge

On the nine-member Washington Township Schools board of education, terms for three incumbents are set to expire on Dec. 31, 2015.

But Kristin Gallagher, Perry Kwok, and Michael St. Jacques have all filed to run for re-election for three-year terms, and won’t be challenged on the November ballot.

Write-in candidates are still accepted at the polls, but will have to overcome the total number of votes either of the three posted candidates.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3.
