Police: Long Valley Woman, Passenger Had Open Beers in Car

Driver charged with DUI.

Police say they found a Long Valley woman driving drunk early Thursday morning, with open beers in her car.

Ashley Martin-Caruso was charged with driving while intoxicated, careless driving and having an open container of alcohol after a 1:44 a.m. motor vehicle stop; she was taken to police headquarters then ultimately released to a friend. Her passenger, Ashley Ioannidis of Flanders, was charged with having an open container ofalcohol and was released.

Hackettstown police say an officer was on a routine patrol when the officer saw the white Chevrolet that Martin-Caruso was driving travelling south on Route 517. The car went over the fog line, then over double-yellow lines, police said. The vehicle then stopped on the crosswalk for a red light at the intersection with Route 46, police said.

The officer pulled the vehicle over on Washington Street. The officer noticed an odor of alcohol, and found an open beer under the drivre's seat, police said. Ioannidis also had an open beer, police said. Ashley Martin-Caruso was given a breath test at police headquarters and was over the legal limit, police said.
