Power Restoration Times Announced By JCP&L For Morris County

Sunday Storm Update: Here are town-by-town updates, as well as when JCP&L expects power to be restored to your Morris County town.

MORRIS, NJ — JCP&L is expecting to restore power to all Morris County towns by 11:30 p.m. on either Tuesday or Wednesday, the company said on its website. The company says they're working quickly to address over 200 downed poles and over 1,000 downed wires.

Update 7:10 a.m. Thursday: Power restoration times have been pushed back for much of the county. Read an update on current power outages and restoration times here.

"Based on the severity of the damage and the number of damage locations, this will be a multi-day restoration," the company said in a statement.

As of 9:12 a.m. on Sunday, 37,705 homes are without power. That's up about 3,000 homes since Saturday at 9 p.m., but is still down from a peak of 51,000 homes in the dark Friday afternoon. Some towns have been hit harder than others: 96 percent of Mendham Borough is without power, while less than five homes in East Hanover are affected (see a full breakdown of outages locations and power restoration times at the bottom of this article).

Restoration efforts have been slowed by continued high winds, which make it unsafe to to workers in bucket trucks to reach high wires. The county and individual townships are aware of the severity of the outages, and have opening warming and charging centers for residents (see below for the latest updates provided by the towns).

On Sunday March 4, JCP&L will checking Morris County transmission lines by helicopter as part of the restoration process. Residents can expect to see helicopters throughout the county.

Because of the severity of the outages, JCP&L has activated the residential ice and water program. You can go to any of the listed locations to get water and/or ice. Many towns have set up warming and charging centers for residents (see below for township updates).

Towns are also stressing the importance of generator safety, reminding residents not to run them near or inside their homes. "Carbon Monoxide can easily enter your home from open garage doors or entrance doors even when they are only slightly cracked. Be sure everyone has a working Carbon Monoxide detector and of course a working smoke detector," the Boonton Fire Department said.

5,782 911 calls were made between 6 a.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday, officials said.
