ShelterBox USA - Delivering Shelter, Warmth and Dignity around the World.

ShelterBox volunteers are working hard to bring shelter, warmth and dignity to families around the world.

ShelterBox is a leading disaster relief charity providing Shelter, Warmth and Dignity to survivors of natural and humanitarian disasters around the world. Shelter is provided in the form of a family sized tent that stabilizes families displaced from their homes. The tent is packed in the iconic green box along with other lifesaving equipment. The equipment consists of water purification, water containers, cooking equipment, blankets, a tool kit, mosquito nets, rope, LuminAid solar light and a children's activity pack. The box can be customized based on the environment and needs, or individual items (tents, water purification, LuminAid) can be sent singularly in bulk.

ShelterBox was originally a Rotary project in the UK and since 2000 has grown to become a recognized leader in international disaster relief helping more than 1,000,000 people in 90 countries. Recent deployments have helped families in Ecuador, Fiji, Malawi, Cameroon, Nepal, Syria and are preparing to help Sri Lanka after flooding has displaced hundreds of thousands. ShelterBox has also helped in the US after hurricane Katrina and tornadoes in the South. Since the aid to the people made homeless from these disaster is so critical, the boxes are pre-packed and staged around the world so that the aid can be delivered quickly.

In addition to the shelter and equipment, ShelterBox has a group of highly trained volunteers known as the ShelterBox Response Team (SRT). Once a disaster occurs and international aid is requested, the SRT will be deployed to work with the local government and other relief agencies to assess the situation and find the areas where aid can be delivered. They will then communicate with the ShelterBox Operations Team to send in the needed aid from a staged location nearby. The SRT will coordinate the distribution of the boxes and help train the families on how to set up the tent and use the other supplies in the box. The resources ShelterBox provides allows families to gain some stability in their lives so that they can focus on rebuilding and recovering.
