Should Schools Allow Drug Searches?

Would you accept cops, dogs searching lockers, students while at school?

Drugs, especially heroin and prescription pills, are a huge problem in our communities.

That statement comes straight from James Curtain, executive director of Daytop New Jersey, a substance abuse treatment center serving adolescents in four different towns across the state.

Heroin, Curtain said, is a major problem in New Jersey's suburbs because of our ports of entry and easy access. It's become a cheap drug and has gotten stronger, Curtain said.

So if teens are fighting substance abuse problems more each day, then how does the community help stop the problem?

Our question this week wants to know if police – K9 units especially – should be allowed to canvass the halls and lockers of our local schools. Do you think the local school boards should approve and allow drug searches in our schools?
