Statue of Liberty is Topic of Virtual Library Talk
Kevin Woyce will present a visual history of of the Statue of Liberty on Tuesday, August 11 at 7 p.m. over Zoom

LONG VALLEY - On Tuesday, August 11th at 7 p.m., Washington Township Public Library will welcome back author, photographer, and lecturer Kevin Woyce for a program the Statue of Liberty. The talk will be held virtually over Zoom. The Statue of Liberty was dedicated on October 28, 1886, after more than twenty years of planning, fund raising, and construction. Join Kevin Woyce as he explains how she was built and what she symbolizes, and introduces some of the people involved in her creation, including sculptor Frederic Bartholdi, engineer Gustave Eiffel, architect Richard Morris Hunt, and newspaper publisher Joseph Pulitzer. The program ends with brief histories of Ellis Island and Liberty State Park. The slideshow includes Kevin's original photographs of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Liberty State Park, and New York City, plus vintage images of historic people, places, and events.
