Teens Arrested After Snapchat Threat Against School: Roxbury PD

Police will be stationed at the high school today for "added reassurance and support," police said.

ROXBURY, NJ — Two Roxbury teenagers were arrested after allegedly making threats against the high school on Snapchat, Roxbury police said.

The alleged threat was reported to police Tuesday afternoon. According to police, the "Snapchat message ... implied acts of violence against the High School." In a video shared on Shapchat, a gun is shown off with the text "I just can't wait to get back from SPRING BREAK," according to a photo obtained by News 12 NJ (you can see a screenshot of the video below).

A 16- and a 17-year-old student were arrested Tuesday afternoon, police said. Both were charged with terroristic threats, causing false public alarm and cyber harassment, and were taken to the Morris County Juvenile Detention Center. Their names were not released.

School was in session as planned on Wednesday, with extra police presence at the high school.

“Officers will be at the High School tomorrow only for added reassurance and support. The Police Department and the High School Administration will continue to closely monitor any threats made and continue to find the balance between addressing these threats and maintaining a calm environment for our students," Roxbury Chief Marc Palanchi said.

A notice was posted on the Roxbury school district's website informing parents of the incident.

"On behalf of the District, Board of Education, and and Roxbury Police, we would like to thank the individuals who brought this concern to the proper authorities, supporting our belief to say something when you see something. Again, action has been taken to ensure the safety of our students and staff. No additional information will be provided as the situation involves a minor," school officials said.
