Administrators, board of education seeking opinions, feedback from community.

It’s that time of the year again, when local school districts and municipalities must configure how it will spend its budget for the coming fiscal year.

The Washington Township School district is inviting residents to share their opinions and give feedback at an open budget planning forum in early January.

The meeting will be held Jan. 6 at the Long Valley Middle School’s Learning Community Center at 7:30 p.m. School board president Cathleen Compoli will preside over the forum.

“The forum will afford members of the public the opportunity to share any thoughts, ideas, or concerns, they may have about the Washington Township Schools with regard to school facilities, the instructional program, and students services,” said Superintendent Jeff Mohre in a statement.

In the 2014-15 school budget, one of the largest line items was the enhancement and upgrade of security systems at each of the district’s five school buildings. The year prior, while not the largest monetary line item but biggest change as a result of the approve budget was the move from half-day to full-day kindergarten.
