Washington Twp.'s Culvert Project Wins 2026 Engineering Award

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ — An infrastructure project designed to improve roadway safety and drainage in Washington Township has received statewide recognition.

The Stony Brook Culvert Replacement Project in Washington Township, Morris County, received a 2026 Distinguished Engineering Award from the New Jersey Alliance for Action, according to Van Cleef Engineering Associates.

The project addressed severe deterioration and roadway settlement affecting infrastructure beneath Deveon Road and Dorset Road, according to the engineering firm.

Van Cleef said its team assessed the conditions, identified structural deficiencies and developed a long-term solution. The firm also provided engineering evaluations, design and construction support, as well as assistance in securing funding for the project.

The work received $1 million in New Jersey Department of Transportation Discretionary Aid funding, according to Van Cleef.

The completed improvements are intended to increase roadway safety, improve drainage and make the infrastructure more resilient over the long term.

Washington Township Mayor Michael Marino congratulated Township Engineer Stan Shreck and the Van Cleef team following the award announcement.

"We are very fortunate in Washington Township to have great professionals working for us," Marino said. "Our township engineer Stan Shreck and his team at Van Cleef Engineering was just awarded an engineering award for their work on the Stony Brook Culvert Replacement Project."
