Wolfpack Dominates Nutley for Title Game Spot

Central softball team will host sister school Mendham on Friday, May 31 for North 2, Group 3 championship.

Before it could punch its ticket to the North 2, Group 3 title game, West Morris Central's softball team had to fight its way through the 22-win squad from Nutley.

The Wolfpack answered the bell, and slugged its way to a first round knockout.

In front of a brick wall defense that included SportsCenter-worthy plays all afternoon, ace pitcher Jamie Fesinstine allowed just one earned run over seven innings, striking out five and walking no one. The hurler is 3-0 in the 2013 playoffs, having allowed just two runs in 21 innings.

Fesinstine can also thank her offense for the support, as the Wolfpack plated nine runs on five hits to beat the number four seed 9-1.

Allie McCourt reached base every time she stepped up to the plate with a smattering of base knocks and bunts, knocking in two runs.

Fesinstine helped her own cause with a double and two runs batted in.

Courtney Chase was all over the field, amassing four diving put outs in the outfield along with an assist, picking off a runner at first base. The senior had two hits and a run batted in as well.

As if playing for the group championship wasn't enough, Central will host number 15 seed Mendham High School on Friday, May 31 at 4 p.m.

Despite the low seed, Mendham High School has knocked off the 2, 7, and 3 seeds thus far in the playoffs.
