Wolfpack Softball Aces First Round Playoff Test

West Morris Central shuts out Cranford behind dominant pitching to move on in tournament.

The West Morris Central softball team knows it has worked too hard this season to not accomplish its goals.

So in the first round of the NJSIAA North 2, Group 3 playoffs, Central showed why it attained the top seed in its bracket, shutting out Cranford 6-0.

It wasn’t just a shutout, though: it was pure domination.

Ace hurler Jamie Fesinstine kept Cranford on its heels and off the ball all day, striking out 12 and allowing just one-hit in the complete game effort.

Fesinstine was the recipient of a team’s worth of slugging on the offensive end, as Kat Spilman, Courtney Chase, Kelsey Brown, and Gina Falzarano all drove in runs. Speedster Allie McCourt accounted for half the team’s runs as she reached home plate three times.

Central is now 20-4 and ranked number 12 in the state by the Star Ledger. The top seed will host number 8 seed Summit on Thursday in the second round of the tournament.
