Lone Eagle CAP supports Wreaths Across America at Madison, NJ

The Lone Eagle Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol supports Wreaths Across America laying wreaths at Basking Ridge and Madison, NJ.

On Dec 18th, the Lone Eagle Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol(CAP), of Morristown, attended the Boy Scout Troop 351 Wreaths Across America(WAA) ceremony and supported the laying of 57 wreaths on veteran graves at the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church. Other Squadron members attending included Cadet Sean Gilsenan, Cadet Anthony Valero, 2d Lt Brian McGonigle, coordinator, and Lt Col Howard Leach. In a subsequent ceremony, the Squadron also laid wreaths at the WW I and other memorials in Madison, NJ. Wreaths Across America began 30 years ago with 5,000 wreaths placed on graves at Arlington National Cemetery. Wreaths Across America promotes the goal to REMEMBER, HONOR, and TEACH about the sacrifices of our veterans. See: http://www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/ .

The Lone Eagle Composite Squadron meets on Wednesday nights at the Morristown National Guard Armory, 430 Western Ave, Morristown, NJ. Civil Air Patrol was founded in December 1941, one week before the U.S. entered World War II. Since then, its mission has evolved over the past 80 years to meet the needs of America’s communities with advanced lifesaving technology and world-class programs in youth development and education.

Civil Air Patrol is the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force and as such is a member of its Total Force. In its auxiliary role, CAP operates a fleet of 560 single-engine Cessna aircraft and more than 2,100 small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) and performs about 90% of all search and rescue operations within the contiguous United States as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center. Often using innovative cellphone forensics and radar analysis software, CAP was credited by the AFRCC with saving 107 lives last year. CAP’s 56,000 members also perform homeland security, disaster relief and drug interdiction missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. As a nonprofit organization, CAP plays a leading role in aerospace education using national academic standards-based STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education. Members also serve as mentors to over 23,000 young people participating in CAP’s Cadet Programs..
