Apple Ridge Country Club Redevelopment Approved

34 single-family homes will be built on and lead and arsenic contamination will be remediated form the site.

The Planning Board approved the redevelopment of the Apple Ridge Country Club Monday night.

Thirty-four single-family, two-story colonial style homes will be constructed on the 100-acre plus property.

Developer Apple Ridge Mahwah LLC will remediate the soil of lead and arsenic that have contaminated the top two to three feet of soil.

Apple Ridge Mahwah proposed blending the top two to three feet of soil with clean soil over the entire property to dilute the contaminants to bring them within state-permitted levels, NorthJersey.com reported. That will requiring removing more than 550 trees in Mahwah, the report states.

Apple Ridge will plant 667 trees to make up for ripping the current ones out, the report states. The developer will donate $800,000 to the United Way to construct a $3.5 million, 13-unit special needs and senior housing facility on Ramapo Valley Road.

The project is slated to take about five years to complete.

Mayor William Laforet told the website that ”years from now will look back and say this was a good thing for the community.”

The golf course will closed at the end of the year, the report said.
