HACKENSACK, NJ — The Federal Emergency Management Agency's disaster recovery center is among those in the state that will reduce hours moving forward, the agency announced this week.

The center, located in the Bergen Community College Philip Ciarco Jr. Learning Center in Hackensack, will reduce weekday hours, now closing at 5 p.m. moving forward. It will also be closed on Sunday.

This move isn't unique to Bergen County, as FEMA announced that the adjustments would be made at all disaster recovery centers in the state that remain open. Other centers, most recently in Warren County, will close.

In Bergen County, the center will still host representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Small Business Administration, who can assist residents as they fill out applications for disaster relief.

The disaster recovery center is located on the first floor of the learning center, at 355 Main St., Hackensack, NJ. It will be open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. until further notice. Parking is available on Berry Street.

Bergen County residents and businesses sustaining losses as a result of the storm are eligible to apply for federal disaster relief after the county received a major disaster declaration from President Joe Biden.

Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.

Bergen County residents and business owners can also apply for disaster relief directly by visiting www.DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired.

The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (local time).
