Bergen County Man Sexually Assaulted Child, Prosecutor Says

Jose Silva, 45, allegedly sexually assaulted a child several times within the past 9 months.

A Bergen County man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly sexually assaulting a juvenile several times within the past nine months, acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo announced.

Jose Silva, 45, of Garfield was arrested after an investigation revealed he sexually assaulted the victim in Garfield, Calo said in a news release.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit and the Garfield Police Department conducted the joint investigation after receiving a report about the alleged abuse Tuesday, Calo said.

Silva was charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a court appearance Thursday afternoon, the acting prosecutor said.
