Bergen Fire Community Mourns Death Of Rockland County 'Brother'

Spring Valley firefighter Jared Lloyd died in the Evergreen Court Home for Adults fire. The Bergen fire community responded Wednesday.

SPRING VALLEY, NY — The Bergen County fire community is mourning the death of Rockland County firefighter Jared Lloyd, who died during the effort to quell the blaze at the Evergreen Court Home for Adults.

Lloyd battled the fire with members of Mahwah Fire Department companies, who were among the first to share the news of his passing. Read more: Mahwah Fire Responds To Deadly Spring Valley Nursing Home Blaze

"We are deeply saddened to hear of the line of duty death of Firefighter Jared Lloyd from Dept. 17, the Spring Valley Fire Department. Jared made the ultimate sacrifice while helping residents during yesterday’s massive fire at the Evergreen Home for Adults," said Mahwah Fire Company 2 officials.

"Co. 2 has had the privilege of growing a great camaraderie with the members of Jared’s firehouse over the years. They’ve always been there for us in times of celebration and in times of sadness. Needless to say, we will do everything we can to assist them in the difficult times ahead."

The Bergen County firefighters Pipe Band also took to social media to share their condolences, as did County Executive Jim Tedesco.

"Last night a massive blaze at a Rockland County nursing home took the life of Rockland County Volunteer Firefighter Jared Lloyd who was one of the first firefighters on scene. As a member of the fire service community, my heartfelt condolences go out to the Lloyd family," Tedesco wrote.

The fire engulfed the Evergreen Court Home for Adults starting around 1 a.m. Tuesday, when Mahwah Fire Company 2 responded for mutual aid. Members of Mahwah Fire Company 1 later responded to the scene.
