Decision On Validity Of Mahwah Mayor's Recall Notice Due Thursday

The township's clerk said that the results of the inquiry would be released on April 9.

A decision on whether or not to recall the Mayor William Laforet will be handed down on Thursday, according to a NorthJersey.com report.

The motion was started with a Notice of Intention to Circulate a Recall Petition, signed by five residents. The Notice must then be approved by the township clerk, according to the report.

According to documents, the reasons opponents believe the Mayor should be recalled include:

Gross incompetent management of personnel matters with reckless disregard for township policies.

Failure to abide by municipal statutes governing the protection of the township’s real property assets.

Breach of fiduciary responsibilities in allowing significant over-expenditures of the police overtime budget without advising the Township Council.

Accepting political contributions from applicants before the Planning Board on which he sits, and voting favorably on their applications.

And misuse of the township police communications channel for self-promotion.
