Ex-Bergen Rabbi Sexually Assaulted Boy For 6 Months: Prosecutor

Rabbi Menachem M. Weiss, 46, was charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, authorities said.

A former Bergen County rabbi was arrested Thursday on charges he sexually assaulted a boy for six months in 1999.

The Woodcliff Lake Police Department received information in December 2016 that Rabbi Menachem M. Weiss, 46, of Los Angeles, California allegedly sexually assaulted a boy between January and June 1999. The assaulted allegedly occurred while Weiss lived in Woodcliff Lake, acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo said.

Weiss currently lives in Los Angeles, California. He is married and works as a teacher.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit and the Woodcliff Lake Police Department investigated. A Grand Jury indicted Weiss on two charges of aggravated sexual assault Tuesday, the prosecutor said.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department took Weiss into custody Thursday. Weiss was taken to the Bergen County Jail. He will be held there pending a detention hearing Monday morning.
