Facebook Page In Support Of Pedals The Bear Shut Down

The page created in support of the bipedal bear was shut down due to "vile behavior and threats" following the animal's death Monday.

The Facebook page dedicated to Pedals, the bipedal bear now feared dead, has been shut down due to "vile behavior and threats" following the animal's death Monday.

Pedals was reportedly killed during the first day of the state's extended bear hunt. The animal was reportedly shot by a hunter with an arrow.

Pedals gained a cult following online after videos of him walking on his hind legs went viral. The bear was missing part of his front, right leg and his left front paw is injured. This forces the bear to walk on his hind legs.

"This page has been shut down due to vile behavior and threats from 'Pedals supporters,'" the page's "about" section states. "We do not know who did it and we will not speculate without factual proof. We are the only ones who spoke to witnesses at the check in station and they have not been able to identify the hunter. Rest in peace, Pedals. We really fought hard for you. We will miss you. Team Pedals."

The only post on the page is from the site's administrators urging people to stop posting peoples' names and personal information. The site was supposedly inundated with posts and messages following reports of the bear's death, many of which were critical of the site."

The state Division of Fish and Wildlife, the agency that oversees the bear hunt, could not confirm whether or not Pedals was actually killed.
