Friend Gives Health Updates On Teen Girl Who's In Coma After Mahwah Crash
A Bergen County girl remains hospitalized after 4 teens were in a car crash Friday night. A fundraiser gave an update on her condition.
BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A GoFundMe is raising money for Cassie Arcaro, a Ramsey girl who was among four teens in a car crash in Mahwah late Friday night. Arcaro was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries, police said.
While three of the teens were able to get out of the car after it struck a light pole around 11:07 p.m. Friday, firefighters had to extricate Arcaro from the back, said Mahwah Police Lt. Michael Blondin. She was airlifted to St. Joseph's University Medical Center.
A GoFundMe posted by Ramsey High School senior Calie Simons has raised more than $31,000 of its $35,000 goal by Tuesday afternoon.

"She will be in an induced coma for the next 5 days while the doctors monitor her brain and allow the swelling to lessen," Simons wrote in her first post.
Simons noted, "The full reason for the accident is still under investigation but as they were driving that night, the breaks on the car seem to have locked so they could not slow down. The driver lost control of the vehicle as they sped into a telephone pole. Although Emilie, Julen, and Katie are physically okay, Cassie was airlifted to a trauma center at St.Joseph’s University Medical Center ... She has the support of friends and family around her however her medical bills will have a large impact on her and her family. Cassie has always shown kindness and care to everyone she knows and we know she will fight and get through this."

Positive Update
Simons posted a positive update Monday night: "Health update: Doctors had lowered Cassie's sedation (called a 'holiday' from meds) for a few hours to test if she can move both hands and legs (SHE CAN!) and now is back on full sedation for 2 days (at minimum) as swelling in her brain hasn't resolved. No broken bones. The lacerations on forehead and cheek have been fixed by the plastic surgeon already."
The crash occurred near a fork in Darlington Road. The Mahwah Police Department and Bergen County Sheriff's Office are investigating. READ MORE: Girl Helicoptered To Hospital After Car With 4 Teens Crashes In Mahwah
