Police Rescue 11-Year-Old Boy Stuck In Mahwah Marsh

The boy was waist-deep in mud, police said.

MAHWAH, NJ — Police rescued an 11-year-old boy who was stuck waist deep in a marsh behind Mark Twain Way and Linden Street Saturday, said Chief James Batelli.

Officer Thomas Mitchell was the first on scene. He took a rope from his patrol car, wrapped it underneath the boy's arms and pulled him to safety, Batelli said.

Mitchell was assisted by officers Liam Kantanas, Keith Iorio and Daniel Stewart along with township firefighters and the Fire Department's Rescue Squad, Batelli said.

Mahwah Ambulance personnel examined the boy and he was reunited with his mother.
