Snow Could Affect Bergen County Commuters On Friday

"Treacherous roadway conditions are likely," the National Weather Service said. Here's how much snow Bergen County could get, and when.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — The National Weather Service is predicting another dangerous morning on roads in North Jersey on Friday, urging commuters to avoid travel if possible.

Forecasters predict 3-5 in. of snowfall in North Jersey starting tonight and continuing into Friday morning. The snow predicted for Friday morning is likely to cause the most problems, NWS officials said.

"Treacherous roadway conditions are likely, especially early," the NWS said, signaling potential trouble for morning commuters.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for Bergen County and much of northeast New Jersey from midnight to 12 p.m. on Friday.

  • Thursday night: Snow, mainly after 2am. Low around 26. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
  • Friday: Snow, mainly before 11am. High near 34. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Northwest wind 5 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
  • Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 18. Wind chill values between 10 and 15. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
  • Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 32. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the afternoon.

Already, some communities in Bergen County are making slight adjustments to normal life, and urging residents themselves to use caution on the road once the flakes start falling.

In Paramus, overnight parking won't be allowed ahead of the potential storm.

The Ridgewood Office of Emergency Management has also offered some tips on how to stay safe during the storm.
