Think back and remember

Yesterday

By now most of you know that recently I went to see a baseball game during the week, a great way to change pace and take a deep breath. The New Jersey Jackals beat up a team called Tres Rivas 13-4 at Yogi Berra Stadium on the campus of Montclair State University

Some of you know that Montclair State was my where I graduated all those years ago, mater of fact when I attended it was called Montclair State College, So it was a kind of day of remembrance for me as I frequently went back and forth in time remembering Clove Road apartments, the Quarry that now houses the baseball stadium and so many other things that have happened since I literally roamed these grounds sooo long ago. I remember WMSC-FM where I hosted a music show on Friday nights and play by play coverage of MSC Sports, I remember hosting Tribe talk, sports talk radio before sports talk radio. I remember Doc Stassheff and his battles with epilepsy, I remember the urging of Doc Travis and Rolland smith at Life hall where our studios where. Today the College that I went to is barely recognizable, its own NJ Transit stop, a hockey rink, parking garage and numerous buildings that grew up after I graduated

I often say how much better yesterday was for me and all of us when I harkens back to the decade of my graduation. Recently I saw some of the old TV shows that were prime time staples of my era like Batman, All in the Family and even NYPD Blue. I thought about those days of playing waffle, soft, or stick ball and playing street hockey at Haskell School and how innocent that time was. The only crime we ever knew about was when we watched the 6 o’clock news with Roger Grimsby or Chuck and Sue. There was no such thing as the internet and it was late in that decade before cordless and cell phones were introduced. Kids actually played outside and somehow everyone knew when to be home. We’d get on our bikes and ride home

I remember my buddy Rich and I being dropped off at Yankee Stadium at 11 am so we could see a doubleheader and be picked up at that same spot at 7pm as teenagers! By the way back then a box seat was $4, 00 yes $4.00 I have stubs in my scrap book to show. Anyway back then we sat in reserves for about $2.50 so for less than ten bucks we saw 2 games had a couple of hot dogs soda and a program,,,,,,can u say Holy Cow!
