The 32nd annual New Jersey Sandcastle Contest will be on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 (rain date July 19). The competition, which begins at 8 a.m., is free and open to participants of all ages, according to VacationInBelmar.com. First, second, and third prizes will be awarded in the following categories, along with a Best on Beach award. Judging is based on creativity, resourcefulness, originality, and accessories. Because the sandcastle designs eventually get washed into the ocean, participants are encouraged to use environmentally friendly materials when creating their masterpieces, according to the website. In 2017, the grand-prize winners were the Bikini Boys from Seaside Heights, New Jersey, who were first-time entrants in the contest. Their Best on Beach creation was titled "Etch-a-Dragon," according to the website. The New Jersey Sandcastle Contest is presented by the Belmar Tourism Commission and D'Jais.
