Belmar Train Accident Driver Identified

Authorities have identified the driver who was killed when an NJTransit train struck her vehicle on the train tracks at Belmar's 8th Avenue on Sunday.

82-year-old Gilda DiGuilmi, of Wall Township, was , John Durso, a spokesperson for NJTransit confirmed.

Witnesses at the scene on Sunday reported that the vehicle was either idling or parked on the tracks, though it was not clear whether the driver had gone around the gates or not.

8th Avenue in this area had been closed throughout the week due to an ongoing road project.

The accident is currently under investigation by NJ Transit Police, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office and the Belmar Police Department.
