• Rare mauve stinger jellyfish sightings increase along Jersey Shore (nj.com subscription) — Beachgoers have reported more painful mauve stinger jellyfish along the Jersey Shore, including sightings in Manasquan as well as Asbury Park, Ocean Grove and Lavallette. Experts say this open-ocean species is rare on New Jersey beaches but has surged in past years, so Manasquan swimmers should stay alert and avoid contact with any washed-up jellyfish.
