• County conducts precautionary mosquito control operations in Manasquan (starnewsgroup.com) — Manasquan residents should know that county crews just sprayed adult mosquitoes borough-wide after West Nile virus activity was detected locally, and inspectors are available to check yards for standing water. Officials urge you to use repellent, wear long sleeves, and dump containers holding water as mosquito season peaks from now through September.
   

• More needles and medical waste washing up on the Jersey Shore (news12.com) — Manasquan Beach was among the first places where needles and syringes recently washed ashore, and similar medical waste is now appearing from Sea Bright to Bay Head. Officials say sewer overflows likely pushed debris into waterways, and they're urging beachgoers not to touch suspicious items and to report them while volunteers prepare for an October cleanup sweep.
