Doherty: Federal Default Could be Disastrous for Towns

As tensions over the federal debt ceiling debate and the possibility of a federal default mount in Washington, officials locally have begun to consider the consequences.

House Speaker John Boehner and President Barack Obama have engaged in a public feud over their dueling debt ceiling proposals. A vote on a Boehner-backed proposal was originally scheduled for Wednesday but has now been scheduled for Thursday.

Time is running short as an August 2 deadline before a national default rapidly approaches.
