The DEP had its first tests for the unofficial summer season this week, and only one beach did not pass the test. All other beaches at the Jersey Shore were determined to be safe for bathers.
Bacteria counts at L Street beach in Belmar came in at more than twice the standard because sewage overflow from a surcharging sanitary system discharged into storm drain.
