Psychic Fair Brings Community Together in Lake Como

On the corners of 17th Ave. and Main Street in Lake Como, there lies Soulful Awakenings, “a place of many offerings.” On Saturday June 18th, it held it’s fourth Psychic Fair - an abundant success in it’s owners’ efforts to bring the community together.

The smell of sage runs through the air of this yoga / meditation / psychic readings, and more studio on this day. Soulful Awakenings owner and founder Donna Sica often hops over from wherever she is to greet guests with enthusiasm, hugs and smiles as they walk through the door.

“Lots of love and hugs are always welcomed here,” said Sica.

The time is now 3:42 p.m. and the Psychic Fair is just beginning. A group of women and one man sit along a popular seating area among guests - the purple cushioned window seat that lies above cabinets. They engage in conversation as they eagerly wait to meet with one, or more of the psychics they had made an appointment to see on this warm, bright day. The sun shines sharp through the windows and one woman speaks of her travels in India. While walk-ins are always welcomed at the Soulful Awakenings Psychic Fairs, seasoned guests know to secure a spot, an appointment is a must.

Today the following psychics are available: Julie Alongi, medical initiative and psychic; JD, psychic; Tina Guddemi, psychic; Maura Bertotti, angel and psychic reader; plus, Kim Felini, massage therapist. In part of the fair, their services are being offered at a reasonable price.

“A friend attended some events here and always tells me about it,” said Soulful Awakenings and psychic new comer Sharon Clark of Belmar. “I’ve always wanted to go to a psychic to get a reading.”

Clark who met with Bertotti on this day referenced her reading as “relaxing.. like a massage without anyone touching me. It was positive, which I liked. There were a few things she told me that I found interesting and they gave me something to think about.”

This event was not only for new comers and people who had never been to a reader before - many were frequent visitors of Soulful Awakenings and had been to at least one of the other three past Psychic Fairs, traveling from as close as Belmar to as far as Hoboken and Verona. Some brought friends and family and who have never been before.

Throughout the day, an eclectic group went in and out. The comfort that its guests have with the studio is so strong that at one point, one woman sat on the floor with her one leg layed out tall, just hanging out, reading a book. Shoes are optional here.

A few guests talked about life and their struggles and conquests, and while Sica checked guests in, she tentatively listened and offered her compassion, love and support. From hardships to blessings, new jobs, and other life changes, on this day as well as many others, according to seasoned guests, people gather in community at Soulful Awakenings, a place that began as an “intention” created in part of a weekly Chakra Crystal Bowl Meditation group facilitated by Sica.

The Fair concluded with a free lecture by JD about untapped psychic ability. She taught guests how to be aware of their gifts and how they are unconsciously using them already along with exercises to try at home to heighten awareness and sharpen skills.
