U.S. Lawmakers in Belmar Friday

Senator Robert Mendendez and U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. (both D-N.J.) will be welcomed to Belmar by Mayor Matt Doherty on Friday, April 20, for a discussion with seniors about the importance of protecting Medicaid and Social Security and the benefits of the Affordable Care Act, according to a release from Pallone's office. 

The lawmakers will be at , 1300 Ocean Avenue, from noon to 1 p.m., where they will tout their efforts to block recent Republican attempts to end the Medicare guarantee and shift health costs to seniors, the release says. 

They will also discuss how New Jersey’s seniors specifically have been helped by the Affordable Care Act, the release says. 

Almost a million of the state's seniors have taken advantage of the free preventative health services now covered under Medicare, such as colonoscopies and mammograms, saving more than $95 million on prescription drugs just last year, the release says.
