Zero Tolerance Rules All Summer in Lake Como
Borough appoints new municipal judge

Mayor Michael Ryan knows that Lake Como is a party destination for out-of-town visitors, especially during the summer.
But the town will not stand for ear-shattering music levels, drinking in public streets, fighting, urinating in public, abusive language or other disturbing behavior that bothers residents, year-round or seasonal.
Residents should report any public disturbances, including excessive noise, to police who will enforce noise ordinances and other laws, Ryan said.

Going forward, anyone issued a court summons for disturbing the peace or breaking any other borough laws will face Lake Como's newest municipal court judge.
"Our zero tolerance policy is in effect 24/7," Ryan announced during Tuesday night's council meeting. "Your quality of life is important to us."

On Ryan's recommendation, the Borough Council voted to appoint Judge Dennis Lavender to fill the unexpired term of now-retired Judge Mark Apostolou as of July 1. Lavender's term is expected to run until Jan. 6, 2014. He also is municipal court judge in Belmar.
Citing health isssues, Apostolou retired from the bench in Lake Como and several other Monmouth County towns including Asbury Park, Bradley Beach and Eatontown.
Ryan thanked Apostolou for his service and expressed a desire to stay in touch with him.
"Judge Apostolou has always been there for us. We hope we can be there for him," Ryan said. "We wish him well in his retirement."
