Man Airlifted As Garbage Truck Overturns On Route 70 In Lakehurst

A Little Egg Harbor man was hospitalized following the crash that shut down Route 70 for about four hours Wednesday, police said.

LAKEHURST, NJ — A Little Egg Harbor Township man was injured Wednesday when the garbage truck he was driving overturned on Route 70, Lakehurst police said.

Michael Glock, 44, was driving the garbage truck for the Little Egg Harbor Township public works department east on Route 70 when it overturned, coming to rest on its left side as the truck came out of the traffic circle, Lakehurst Police Chief Matthew Kline said.

Glock was partially ejected through the windshield, and had to be flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment, he said.

Route 70 was closed in both directions for about four hours while the fully loaded garbage truck was removed from the road, Kline said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information about it is asked to call Officer Harold Hester at 732-657-7812.

Assisting at the crash was Lakehurst Volunteer Fire Department, Lakehurst Public Works, Joint Base Fire Department, Whiting Volunteer Fire Department, Manchester Township EMS, Manchester Township Fire Department, RWJ Paramedics, RWJ Medivac, Berkeley Hazmat, NJDOT diversion team and Accurate Towing Service.
