Manchester Man Dies After Boat Capsizes On Raritan Bay: NJSP

Carl Bacic, 76, was found unresponsive in the water by a good Samaritan, who performed CPR to try to save his life, authorities said.

KEANSBURG, NJ — A Manchester Township man has been identified as the boater who died Saturday when his boat capsized in Raritan Bay on Saturday, New Jersey State Police said.

Carl Bacic, 76, of the Whiting section, was pronounced dead at Monmouth Cove Marina in Keansburg, where he was taken after he was pulled from the water, Trooper Alejandro Goez said.

A good Samaritan reported the capsized 21-foot boat about 10 a.m., the U.S. Coast Guard New York Station said in a news release. The good Samaritan pulled Bacic, who was unresponsive, from Raritan Bay and performed CPR until authorities arrived, the Coast Guard said.

A crew from the Coast Guard continued CPR as Bacic was taken to the marina, where he was transferred to EMS.

Coast Guard boat crews from Station Sandy Hook and Station New York responded, along with New Jersey State Marine Police, New York City Fire Department Marine, and New York City Police Department Aviation. A Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook 29-foot Response Boat-Small boat crew arrived on scene within 10 minutes. The recovered person was transferred to the Coast Guard crew where they continued CPR efforts while en route to Monmouth Cove Marina, where the person was transferred to EMS, the Coast Guard said.

Bacic was pronounced dead at the marina, Goes said. He said preliminary information showed Bacic was the only one on board the boat, but the investigation is continuing.

The Coast Guard said a search was conducted until it was confirmed Bacic was the only one on board.
