A Manchester Township woman is alive and expressing gratitude for Manchester Township police officers after they saved her when she was choking on a piece of steak.
Manchester Township Officers Ryan Saul, Joseph Fastige, and Adam Carey were dispatched to a home in Leisure Village West for a 911 hang-up call about 11:15 a.m. on Monday, July 13, Capt. Todd Malland said.
There they found Carol Scott, 61, lying on the floor choking on a piece of steak. She was having difficulty breathing and was unable to dislodge the food, he said. The officers each performed the Heimlich maneuver on her but were unable to dislodge the food, and Scott began to turn blue and she lost consciousness, he said.

The officers switched to performing CPR and within a few minutes, she regained consciousness and the food was dislodged, he said.
As medics from the Manchester First Aid Squad and MONOC arrived, Scott was going in and out of consciousness and had little to no pulse, but the paramedics provided treatment and took her to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus for further evaluation, Malland said.
