Manchester Schools Seek Cereal Donations For People's Pantry

The annual cereal drive by student community service groups aims to collect 1,700 boxes of cereal by Friday.

MANCHESTER, NJ — Manchester Township students are trying to do their part to help the hungry in Ocean County by collecting boxes of cereal for the People's Pantry.

The drive is organized by the Manchester Townshiop High School InterACT Club, the Manchester Middle School Impact Club, and the Junior Impact Clubs at Manchester, Ridgeway and Whiting elementary schools. The students are working in concert with the Lakehurst-Manchester Rotary Club.

The goal for the 2020 drive is 1,700 boxes of cereal.

Donations can be dropped off at any of the schools. They will be collected and taken to the People's Pantry on Hooper Avenue in Toms River.

Food insecurity, or lack of a consistent and stable source of food, affects more than 79,000 residents in Ocean County, according to the organization, which formed in the wake of SuperStorm Sandy.
