Manchester Set To Ban Feeding Wildlife

An ordinance up for final reading on Monday would add make it illegal to put out food for wildlife, with fines for repeat offenders.

MANCHESTER, NJ — If you like to feed peanuts to squirrels, or put out a buffet for the possums or other wildlife, you won't be able to do it much longer.

The Manchester Township Council is set to ban feeding of wildlife in an ordinance up for final reading and adoption on Monday night.

The ordinance updates one already on the books that bans the feeding of feral cats except for those that are part of a managed cat colony.

The proposed ordinance would result in a warning for a first offense, with fines of up to $500 for subsequent offenses.

The ordinance is part of the township's Chapter 101 on animals.

The council meeting is set for 6 p.m. at the Manchester Township municipal building.
