WATCH: If You're Hearing Rumbles, It's The Joint Base

MANCHESTER, NJ — If you've been hearing a constant rumble this weekend, it's not thunder.

It's field artillery training going on at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, the base announced on its Facebook page.

Units from the 1st Battalion, 101st Field Artillery Regiment of Brockton, Massachusetts, are training on new M119A3 howitzers for the first time. They are the first unit in the U.S. Army to have the M119A3 with a fixed recoil system, the battalion said on its Facebook page.

The artillery training began Friday and will go through the week, the Joint Base said, primarily between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The battalion fired the Howitzers on Friday with engineers and project managers from Picatinny Arsenal and Rock Island Arsenal in attendance to see the artillery project they have worked on for the last two years in action, the battalion said.

"As always, JB MDL is committed to being good neighbors, and we SO greatly appreciate your patience as we train our nation's fighting force. Thank you!" the joint base post said. Training goes on continuously at the base, officials there said, but they try to alert nearby residents when the training will be louder than usual.
