Afternoon Carjacking at Beach and Academy

A driver was carjacked this afternoon at Beach Street and Academy Street in Maplewood after being held up at gunpoint, according to Maplewood police.

Maplewood Police Departement's Sgt. Williams confirmed that the driver, who was approached by the suspect shortly after 2 p.m., was unharmed and that the vehicle was recovered by Newark Police in Newark after a pursuit.

Maplewood police referred further inquiries on the incident to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office. Patch will be updating this article as more information becomes available.
